Shock Absorber Component Sorting Operation
A manufacturer of automotive components needed to verify that parts that were about to be packaged were the correct type. There were sometimes some very subtle differences among parts to be sorted.
Part number of the inspected part is selected from a WindowsXP recipe menu. Parts are indexed onto a flat table where they are illuminated from the top. Part position is repeatable within +/- 0.002". A Part-In-Place signal triggers the camera to acquire an image. Software tools inspect for the size and number of slots and holes. A comparison to a series of stored data is performed. Non- conforming parts are rejected by a mechanical reject mechanism.
The process is repeated for as long as parts feed into the station.
Additional part numbers are easily taught from the Windows GUI.
