A manufacturer of packaging equipment needed a robust, low-cost method of verifying that documentation was inserted into a carton.
The carton insert was difficult to handle. A certain level of misfeeds was tolerable regarding machine performance, but 100% inspection and verification of product documatation in the carton was required.
A compact vision system was the ideal solution for this application. The 2D camera was able to "scan" the entire area of the carton for the insert (left-hand image, above). Cartons without inserts (right-hand image, above) were rejected from the machine for manual insertion.
Note: The compact vision system software also incorporated verifiability features necessary for anticipated data logging requirements for end-user documentation.
